Lindsay Lohan was born on July 2, 1986. She is the oldest of 4 kids and her parents are divorced. Her dad was not very much a part of her life growing up and to this day she does not have anything to do with him. Lohan was a rising child star who started her acting career at the age of three. She starred in many commercials before showcasing her fabulous acting ability when she appeared in the remake of Parent Trap in 1998. She took a little time off after this showcase to be a â€Å"normal† child. After dropping out of high school, she had a few bigger screen acting jobs and some extra shots in daytime television (Current Biography, 2005). Finding more information about her past would be a first approach in trying to figure out the root of her addictions and behaviors. Lindsay Lohan’s behaviors are in a ray of dysfunction, on t he verge of danger. She has reached a point in her life where her actions could lead to possible suicide. She is psychologically abnormal in her everyday life. (Pappas, 2010, P6) From the psychodynamic perspective, Lindsay Lohan has had this need of filling a human void. She had a strong dependency of people. It is unsure if this is because of the absence of her father, but it could very likely be a key factor. There were no reports that Lohan’s mother denied her of her needs emotionally growing up, but Lohan stated â€Å"He didnt do anything for my career, except go out and not come home at night and make my mom and me stay up and wonder where he was and then show up three days later. So I dont think he deserves anything. He doesnt even deserve my respect. (Current Biography, 2005 P12). Object relation theorists say that have a strong need to have relationships with people and when they are young and have severe problems, this can lead to abnormal development (Comer, 2011 p g. 40 top). Because Lohan’s relationship with her father consisted of her being worried according to the statement she made in the previous paragraph, she did not get her need to have a relationship with him; therefore she has an abnormal development. Appreciation from Son to Mother in Tupac Shakurs Song,...

Throughout the emotional lyrics of Tupac Shakur’s song â€Å"Dear Mama†, he constantly reveals trial and tribulation. Shakur sympathetically expresses the obstacles he endures due to the undying support of his mother who displays sacrificial love. He explains the abnormal circumstances in which his family undergoes such as poverty, single parenting, and even feelings of hopelessness. Shakur characterizes his mother as a heroic figure, who outshines the negative aspects of his life by providing the essentials only a mother could both physically and morally instill in her child. The artist brilliantly captivates his audience by revealing personal information from his childhood in which many can relate to. Karl Marx was one of the most influential ideologues of all times. His ideas fired men to revolutions and empowered them as a class denoted by the proletariat to wage struggle against domination by the bourgeois. (Marx. While Marx was a powerful believer in individual power, it was through its regulation that change in society was brought about. This change was not the way a person pleased or sought it to be but on the basis of history and as per existing circumstances. (Marx. Engels: 1986).   In the struggle of the classes, Marx believed that it was individual influence as denoted in labor power which had been undermined over the years by the bourgeoisie. The control granted to individuals through their work denoted labor power which comprised of the prime energy which created a vital force in nations. (Marx: 1999). Marx values labor power as it is the only means which can produce more value than its worth, thus this is the productive value of individuals.   (Marx: 2003).   Class struggle as per Marx begins with individual power generated by personal toil which is coagulated to destroy those elements which work against their interests. Thus Marx believed that the exploitative nature of individual power particularly amongst the bourgeoisie will be brought to an end through collective authority of individuals of the proletariat. (Karl Marx: 2006). Marx states that each man in a capitalist system works in his own interest and thus ultimately results in the destruction of the organism as a whole. (Aron: 1965). The ideal structure for harnessing individual power is thus felt to be the communist system wherein the power of each individual can be channelised for the collective good. An individual’s role is related to his role in class and economic relations and thus his power is also channelised in that direction. (Marx: 1999). The view of individual power held by Marx is thus of production, material creation and contribution to the class struggle. The individual soul loses its power in the collectivity of the class to which he belongs. Arnold was a poet in the Victorian era who is said to have guidance and rationality in an age which was increasingly industrialized and when individuals were losing their moorings to increased vocationalisation of human activity. By adopting the analogies of the Barbarians, Philistines and Populace wherein individuality was subordinated, Arnold attempted to bring back a sense of power to the individual. (Arnold EB: 2006). Arnold’s philosophy of individualism was based on the ability of the individual to change society by following a contrarian approach rather than just blindly following reality. Arnold abhorred the average man who he believed failed to contribute to quality in society. It is the individual who is not average, the, â€Å"remnant† as he called it who contributes most to the social order and democracy. A remnant is required to be humble and should look upwards to some standard. Once a majority of the people assume such a quality, as per Arnold, the whole society will rise above the normal. For raising such a social order, education was a key parameter. Education has to be humanist and religious and not merely utilitarian or sentimental. The scientific temper of education has been reducing the humane standards that people have.   There was a greater need for reinventing education to enable a holistic approach. (The Dialogue: 2006). Arnold calls for finding the best amongst oneself and then follow it. This self needs to be one which is the best and not what is upper most in the mind. An individual should not go against this, â€Å"best light† and ensure that this light is not darkness. (Arnold : 2000). Pursuit of culture which generates beauty and intelligence or what Arnold has called sweetness and light in individual is its main purpose. (Arnold : 2000)   Action by individuals should be guided by such sweetness and light. There should be no fear that such men cannot bear the trials of a tough life, by avoiding rough action. By relying on less random action people can confront such acts. Arnold believed that the central theme of British society was assertion of personal liberty. However he was clearly against individualism resulting in anarchy. (Arnold : 2000) Arnolds identified religion as per Christ as a force which was based on individual proclivities acting on himself rather than injunctions from outside. Thus the individual can gain control over himself and thus contribute to society. (Style : 2006). Arnold spawned the movement of humanism in the United Staes which provided the guiding light of morality from past civilisations for individuals to survive in a world which was turning towards greater individualism and materialism. (New Humanism : 2006). The strength of Arnold’s style lay lies in his use of the satirical and analytic to denote his theories which made them more explicit. (Genre : 2006). The individual power denoted by Marx is one which has been harnessed for creation, production and destruction. (Marx. Engels: 1986). It is power in the individual for action resulting from his labor, as against intrinsic power developed through intermix with education and culture. Marx wants to harness individual power to change society, to bring class struggle; Arnold wants individual power to raise the resistance of humans to survive in an increasingly materialistic and industrialized World. (Marx. Engels: 1986). The strength or power in an individual as per Arnold came from within, while Marx believed that individual power came from the society and the environment surrounding him. The power of individuals as per Marx rests in his ability to produce value through labor, it is to be harnessed collectively, on the other hand, Arnold believes in power of the individual which is derived from his culture and sensitivities and which guides him to do the right things for the overall good of society. Gender Stereotypes In Advertising Essay Gender Stereotypes In AdvertisingHave you ever thought about the way that you feel after you see a really funny commercial, or a commercial that shocks you to the point where you know your going to think about it for the rest of the day? By simply stating the name of a specific company, is it possible for you to tell me their slogan___ is the place for the hardware man.? Slogans like this are there to keep your attention, whether it be sexually, athletically, or by shock-value. These sexually-charged slogans are not by accident (such as the ?hardware man?). They are put there for the very reason so you will think about them for the rest of the day. The perfect slogan or advertisement can go on for generations, and can sometimes carry a corporation. One of these firms that you might say has been carried by their history of ad campaigns is Absolut Vodka. They can be all over the place, in magazines or even on TV, the way that these Absolut ads can turn anything from a womans body to a brick wall into the shape of their bottle. Shaped the same way as a common liquor or wine bottle, yet still everyone knows that this ad is Absolut-ly Absolut. The perfect example of a mental monopoly is by seeing a solid black magazine ad with a bottle cut out of it; the first thought to cross the consumers mind is that of the Absolut bottle. The surprise comes when the page is turned and the reader is bombarded with images of scantly clad men and women. Now the double take occurs when not only the traditional Absolut advertising ploy is present but also, this campaign is based around a sexual stereotype. Even established businesses will use gender roles to further product recognition. Because Absolut Vodka uses several ploys that highlight gender stereotypes in an effort to sell their product, consumers need to be aware that drinking this alcohol will not guarantee happiness or satisfaction with members of the opposite sex. Individual advertisement examples are clearly shown in the first advertisement of a man seemingly climbing a sheet of ice with the silhouette of the Absolut bottle protruding from the side of the mountain. Although many women love the hardcore aspects of ?conquering? the outdoors, it is generally thought of as a mans passion to get outside and explore. While this is not the traditional Absolut ad with the mountain actually resembling the bottle of liquor it does do an excellent job of getting its point across with subtle gender bias. Until actually examining an advertisement, it is hard to notice the gender roles that shine through so strongly. In this very ad, at a glance it looks as if they are simply stating that their vodka is strong and on the edge, while in reality this is the Swiss companys way of appealing to the male gender. Suddenly a few pages later the dangerous, and on the edge drink, has been transformed into a lighthearted woman. It is the same as realizing that the wo man in the beer commercial is staring at you almost as if to be saying that by purchasing this drink the consumers appeal to this woman has skyrocketed. It is an ingenious way of marketing to different types of people, whether they be male, female, hetero- or homosexual, it is a simple fact that by going through sexual desire companies will sell more of their product.. Using the same stereotype this next ad implies that a woman would rather drink a vodka that is seen to be traditionally stylish and smooth rather then the hard, rough going- down drink that we saw in the preceding advertisement. This Absolut ad takes the scenic route employing a feathered scarf draped over the now elegant looking bottle. The spotlight is focused upon the bottle giving the idea that this is the drink that the important and beautiful people drink. In this scenario it is supposed to remind us of the days when glamorous movie stars walked the runway for their picture premiere; it is an old-school attitude that they try to turn into a successful advertisement. Although the same idea, these two advertisements seem to speak of two totally different beverages. In one case theres liquor that men would need to drink when theyre with the boys, telling war stories, the other is of the flappers in the 1920s sipping cocktails while socializing at a dance club. A great associate in advertising can take different social scenarios and turn them into the same drink. A true advertising genius can take a drink such as this, create hundreds of them for each specific sexual group, especially the two gender roles and institute them throughout the world, while all the while using fun, and sexuality as his basis. It must be understood however, that it does not matter what car you drive or what you drink when your thirsty, you will not be able to attract anyone that you could not previously, people need to focus more attention on their social skills then on their wallets, and I promise you, you will be able to win the girl/guy of your dreams. It matters none at all if you are drinking Absolut vodka at a party you will still be thought of as the same person. With the third ad, Absolut decided to switch away from the stereotypes and head directly into full throttle sexual desire. In this ad, entitled ?Absolut Peep-Show? it shows a bottle of Absolut Vodka with a half-naked woman sitting directly behind it. Where the bottle and the woman intersect, the body is magnified behind the glass. With this ad Absolut switches from the actual stereotypes and goes directly into blatant sexual desires. When a man crosses this ad the initial feeling is that when this drink is around, a woman like that can pop up anywhere. After analyzing this advertisement it is easy to recognize what the female body equates to in this world most times. There are instances such as this one where this woman is nothing but a body to be fantasized at with male eyes. Ad executives understand that this body will sell although it has nothing to do with liquor, just a beautiful female figure, this will sell liquor. This advertisement is also a shining example of the power men believe they have over women when an article like this is seen. It is easy to see people as objects when they are flaunting just to be seen this is why advertisers use this to propel sales. Although advertisers know people are not gullible, it is always beneficial to have an association to go with the product as in this ad, it will be easier when walking down the aisle to pick up the bottle of Absolut for the fact that they will remember the woman in the advertisement. As with anything pictures stream imagination which streams fantasy, this is the central point of what this ad is trying to get across. Absolut has a monopoly on creativity in the use of ploys in their ads but the messages they send are resoundingly the same. The advertising ploy that is used most often throughout the world, and especially in Absolut is that of sexuality. Human sexuality can take a boring ad and make it anywhere from interesting, to shocking, to appealing in one critical move. Think of a normal teenage male watching a soft-drink advertisement, is he more likely to remember an ad where another random person has the is drinking the same drink? Or will he remember the ad in which a beautiful woman in a low cut bathi ng suit walks in front of the camera and oh yeah, she has the bottle in her hand? These are all things that go through the minds of marketing executives who plan what we will watch in between our favorite television shows, or what we will read at the doctors office. Throughout these three gender ploys it is plain to see that advertisers will not stop in the fight over your business. It was this â€Å"need theory† which was the first distinction made between medicine and nursing. The unique function of nurses was to assist a patient in whatever activities contributed to health or recovery. Nurses give patients, in this context, the strength, the knowledge, or the will to perform such basic tasks unaided. This idea really emphasizes getting into the mind of the patient to help them better heal physically. The Henderson nursing theory stated that the patient required assistance in order to achieve health, regain their independence, or have a peaceful death. The patient and their families needed to be viewed as a single unit, and it was important for nurses to know that the body and mind were inseparable and they needed to be treated as such. She emphasized how the quality of mental health would allow an individual to heal more rapidly (Henderson, 1966). She went on to state that patients wanted to learn, discover, and satisfy their natural curiosity so that they can better develop their health, something that is emphasized in the BSN program. As a nurse, applying Henderson’s â€Å"need theory† requires first assessing the basic needs of the individual. Implementing of treatment prescribed by a physician should be done by taking into account what activities need to be achieved in order to recover from an illness, maintain health, or aid in a peaceful death. The implementation as a nurse should be based on emotional balance, age, cultural background, physical capacities, or emotional capacities. An evaluation should be done to determine the speed with which a patient can perform tasks or the degree to which a patient can perform tasks in an independent fashion, such that they can eventually meet their goals for recovery or a peaceful death (Henderson, 1997). When working with different cultures, it is important for medical practitioners to communicate with parents, and to take certain beliefs into consideration of the parents in the cause and treatment of disease. In Hmong culture parents are open to discussing the name of the problem, as well as what they considered to be the cause. They believed they knew at what point the problem started, but their answer is not necessarily a medical one which Western doctors are trained to address. It can be particularly shocking that contraceptives would not be used, especially among the converts, or that no matter the changes in their environment or where they were living, they would stick to their traditional roles of early marriage and multiple children. It is imperative for those whose responsibilities involve children, health or social care matters to fully understand the true meaning of ethical care and the right way to implement such concept in their daily roles and work responsibilities. In- depth Interviews- To find out the reasons why people play casual internet games 15 in-depth interviews will be conducted keeping in mind that all possible platforms are covered. The hows and whys of the college going gamers will be found out. Questionnaire- To understand the usage patterns of the casual internet gamers, a qualitative questionnaire will be in order. It will give us the various attitudes of the gamers along with consumption patterns of the college-going gamers. We will be able to find out which games they are playing, when they are playing and how they are playing. A questionnaire will have a sample size of around 40 people from the college-going gamers. The results of the in-depth interview and questionnaire along with the secondary research will then be used to develop the psychographic profiling of the casual internet gamer. This will be done using the TGI software tool. The universe will be derived by the intensive secondary research. Sample size is proposed to be 15 in-depth interviews and 40 gamers (20 men and 20 women) for the questionnaire, keeping in mind our target, the college going gamers. Mere numbers are irrelevant here as our focus is on developing a deep understanding on the subject. As this is a qualitative study, a probability sampling method is ineffective and expensive; hence we will do non-probability sampling with convenience, quota and snow-ball sampling techniques. A content analysis technique will be undertaken. The analysis will be with a systematic description of behavior asking who, what, where, where and how questions within formulated systematic rules to limit the effects of analyst bias. Being an exploratory research, this will be a good basis to begin with. EXPECTED CONTRIBUTION The Indian gaming industry is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 49% to reach USD 830 million by 2012 which was USD 167 million in 2008. Casual internet gaming is an area of the industry which is popular and growing. And it is also an area where on an extensive search no concrete research could be found. Also, casual gaming is just a subset of computer gaming, which in itself is a large field to research on, given the dearth of studies done in the Indian context, leaving scope for further researches, using this research as a basis. Grace OMalley :: Biography

Her Father was a main influence in her life. She is an infamous Irish rebel. She cut her hair short like a boy as a child because she thought it would show her parents that could survive the tough life at sea. Who was this wild Irish woman? Grace O’Malley, Queen of the Irish seas. Wild and dangerous, Grace O’Malley sailed the rocky Irish coast. Born in the year 1530, legend says, when her parents looked into her eyes they said they saw the light of the sea in her eye (McCully, 2). Grace’s Father was a pirate and Chieftain of the O’Malley Clan. Owen, her father, was away for many long trips. Grace thought being a pirate was fun. She asked her parents if she could tag along with Owen. Her parents found this quite funny. Frustrated, she ran off and came back with boy hair. Eventually, Grace proved to her parents that she could withstand the journey (Stanely, PAR 1). After Grace’s first voyage her parents had to face it, she was a pirate at heart. On her first trip her parents were glade she came. Reason being, she saved her father’s life. When the O’Malley Clan was heading back they were attacked. Her father made Grace hid if they were attacked. Grace, a young fearless child, didn’t do that. Instead, she watched from above. Grace, watching the attack from above, saw someone sneak behind her father. She leaped down and attacked him, saving her father (â€Å"Pirate King†, PAR3). O’Malley was a well educated person even though she was a pirate. She could read, write and speak a few different languages including Latin. This skill helped her get places and actually helped her gain respect (McCulley PAR 2). Grace was off and married at the age of 15. Not for love but for alliance. She married Donal O’Flahrety, leader of another powerful clan like the O’Malleys. Together they fought the English and other clans for one year. At the end of the year Grace released Donal. They both couldn’t bear to let each other go. Donal and Grace stayed together not for alliance, but for love this time (â€Å"Sea Queens† 31). Later he died, when is unknown. After the death of Donal she married Richard Bourke. Richard, like Donal was the leader of a powerful clan. Together they were extremely powerful. Grace mainly married Richard for more power over the West Coast of Ireland.
